Rye at Tallis

For local wines, long lunches and epic views.
For curated events and memories made.

Since opening a couple of months ago, Rye at Tallis has been drawing food and wine lovers from near and far for warming winter eats and top-shelf drinks.

What was once the Tallis Wines cellar door has been completely reimagined as a modern wine bar and restaurant. And while its name pays homage to the location surrounded by Tallis farm and vineyards, the experience has significantly changed.

“Our wine menu still features all the Tallis Wine favourites, but we’ve expanded our list to include so many more wonderful wines – and other tipples – from across our region,” says Tess Nicholson, the bar’s co-owner and Kialla local. Think Pinot Gris by Tahbilk, Sangiovese by Murchison Wine and a range of gins by Black Rabbit and Sidehustle.

Share plates have also scaled up, allowing groups to settle in around tables or by the roaring fire with a range of dishes paired to wines. The tasty selections include chicken goujons, arancini with smoked mozzarella centres and chips with truffle pecorino or graze your way through platter selections featuring the best of the seasons our region has to over.

Like the drinks list, the food menu is a showcase of Goulburn Valley produce by the highly regarded chef Lachy Andrew, formerly of Teller Collective. His long Sunday lunch runs every two months and features Indigo Valley succulent lamb and local pork alongside roasted seasonal vegetables and potatoes, crusty bread baked in town and sticky date pudding to finish.

As well as a delicious introduction to the region’s produce, Rye at Tallis is also known for its sweeping vistas over the valley. It’s little wonder the venue has already hosted private and corporate dinners and been approached for wedding bookings.

“Luckily we already have experience in weddings and events,” adds co-owner Hannah Harmer. “With the views, the beautiful space, our amazing chef and of course the wine list, there’s really nowhere else like it. The first of our weddings is coming up in August and we can’t wait.”

Rye at Tallis is open and Thursday to Sunday for lunch and afternoons. With a pizza oven and live music coming soon, the bar is looking forward to being to hosting many more locals and all lovers of great food and wine.

Rye at Tallis is a reimagined wine bar in the Dookie Hills serving Tallis Wines alongside top-shelf drinks and dishes from across the valley.
